Metal & Glass
Did you know that the word Pyrex glass is actually 3.3 Low expansion glass or also known by its chemical name Borosilicate?
Borosilicate was invented by mistake, like most great inventions, back in the 19th century by Otto Schott in Germany, he founded what is now known as the Schott AG.
Corning Glass introduce their version in 1915 which propelled the Borosilicate Glass into the stratosphere in the USA. Borosilicate is used through out the industrial world from diverse applications such as military optics to chemical manufacturing.
For years we have sold Pyrex glass piping products to pharmaceutical & chemical companies around the world. As with all industries, things change. Over the last decade borosilicate products have been isolated from the typical plant manufacturing applications back to the pilot plant and laboratories.
Chem Flowtronics has learned with many years experience the combination of metals and glass and the advantages of using borosilicate in controlled environments such as sight flow indicators, level gauges, measuring equipment. We have do this by applying three simple rules
- What is pressure / temperature exposure and how do those values change in the application
- Materials or fluids that the assembly will be in contact with
- How can we protect the glass from human interaction
Sight flow indicators provide a visual indication of fluid or gas flow in pipelines, allowing operators to monitor processes and detect abnormalities.
Monitoring Fluids & Gases
Sight flow indicators can also be used to monitor the quality of the process fluids or gases. In some cases, it may be necessary to inspect the fluid or gas for impurities, bubbles, or other irregularities. Sight flow indicators can allow operators to observe the fluid or gas as it passes through the pipeline and detect any of these issues in real-time. This information can be used to adjust the process conditions or make any necessary changes to improve the quality of the product.
Safety in Process Plants
Another important function of a sight flow indicator is to ensure the safety of the process plant and its operators. All Chem Flowtronics Sight Flow Indicators have a large safety margin incorporated by design. This includes a material qualification to match your application. By providing a visual indication of the flow of fluid or gas, sight flow indicators can help prevent accidents and mitigate risks associated with leaks or spills. For example, if a sight flow indicator installed in a pipeline leading to a storage tank detects a decrease in flow, the operator can quickly shut off the flow of fluid or gas to prevent any potential spills or leaks.
Find Sight Flow Indicators Today
Overall, sight flow indicators play a critical role in many process plants by providing operators with a real time visual indication of the flow of fluid or gas through pipelines. They help ensure the proper functioning of equipment, monitor the quality of process fluids or gases, and enhance the safety of the process plant and its operators. If you own or operate a process plant, you know how vital monitoring and safety is to your team and facility.
